Hello listers
Just for future reference and in response to the number of
contributions and responses I've had I am excluding the following design
disciplines or disciplines which have design as a dimension. Apologies.
architecture
software design (computing)
landscape research
urban design (planning)
engineering
environmental design
Thus, on the one hand, I am excluding for the moment design discipline
which address the building and outward (e.g. city scape) and certain
design fields which are a minor dimension or theme in a broader field
e.g. computer studies, engineering. This does not exclude, however,
institutions in which a design unit or department is located within,
e.g. a faculty of architecture or environmental design, for whatever
reason but is recognized as a distinct department and has a so badged
PhD. There is a small literature dealing with these boundary issues, of
course, which I would wheel in at a later stage.
