I've been asked to pass this on: ideal for a stats student who wants to
get out of the office!
Please reply to Tord (contact details below), rather than me.

We are looking for a PhD student who will contribute to increase the
understanding of the effects of a changed climate on the long-term
persistence of species. The work includes evaluating strategies for
species conservation under a changed climate.
Do you want to conduct research on population ecology and conservation
biology? Do you have a Master degree in forestry or ecology? Then, you
may be the one that we are looking for. You should be analytic, have a
great interest in statistical modelling and in conducting simulations of
population dynamics. It is also an advantage if you enjoy working in the
field. We would be happy to see that you easily establish and maintain
contacts in the research community as well as in the society as a whole.
Driving licence is a requirement, and some knowledge of mosses and
lichens is an advantage.
The aim of the project is to predict effects of different strategies for
establishing beech stands north of the current distribution on the
ability of a set of species' ability to spread north. The predictions
will be based on simulations of population dynamics in southern-Swedish
landscapes. Study species are mainly lichens that grow on the bark of
trees, so called epiphytes. The dynamics of both fictive and real
species will be simulated. Model predictions will be evaluated using
field experiments. The work also involves testing a new method to
develop models for metapopulation dynamics based on only data on the
occurrence pattern of the species in the landscape. Finally, there will
be an opportunity to work on investigating the effect of a changed
climate on the persistence of a moss species whose dynamics are strongly
driven by the climate.

have done before, a short description of your idea about what you should
do in this project (½-1 page), MSc thesis (or equivalent), curriculum
vitae, and reference person(s). All documents should be submitted in 3
