That broadcast on the 'Today' programme (BBC Radio 4) I learned was to
happen through a trailer earlier in the programme, but wasn't at home to
listen to; I apologise for not warning 'Lis-maps' that it was probably
to be related to the press notice - such as that I posted to you earlier
in the week.
No particular comment on the "... we run the largest archive of historic
maps in the UK..." comment, but one must assume he knows the holdings
totals of the major map collections in the UK . . .

Subject: Russian maps of the UK on the Today programme
Dear friends,
Do listen to the item on yesterday's Today Programme one the Russian
maps of the UK. This consisted of an interview with Landmark who have,
it appears, digitised many of the Old Soviet maps of the UK.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listenagain/thursday.shtml
The item can be found at 7:38
I was particularly intrigued when the interviewee (Richard Pawlyn,
Property & Environment Managing Director, Landmark) noted in passing
"... we run the largest archive of historic maps in the UK...". Anyone
have a comment on that?
I till have a copy of the OS statement to the BCS 'Russian military
mapping of the UK', given at the 1997 symposium. The OS seemed quite
anti anyone even thinking about Soviet mapping then, let alone
possessing it. Best wishes Tinho
