medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Friends,
According to Albert le Grand, the Nantaise Abbey of St Martin de Vertou
(just south of Nantes) was sacked during the Viking incursions and the monks
fled to St Jovian de Marne with his relics. When the vikings had been driven
out / assimilated, the monks returned but St Martin de Vertou was downgraded
to a priory and was a dependent house of the Abbey of St Jovian de Marne.
I have two questions:
Can any one tell me where the Benedictine Abbey of St Jovian de Marne was
located ?
Who was Saint Jovian anyway ? (I cannot find him in "New Advent" nor in Med
Rel archives.)
Ever hopeful,
Brenda.
