medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi Ann,
Is the reliquary on this page the one you were looking for?
http://www.paradoxplace.com/Perspectives/Italian%20Images/Montages/Umbria%20
&%20Le%20Marche/Orvieto/Orvieto%20Duomo%20Inside.htm
It's the reliquary from of the Corporal in Orvieto, Italy. The reliquary
holds an altar cloth. A host bled onto it during a mass, verifying the
doctrine of transubstantiation. It's called the miracle of Bolsena although
the relic was moved to Orvieto. The reliquary itself has Sienese origins if
I remember correctly.
Gary Macy is the expert on this miracle though!
Best,
Suzanne

Sorry, that's "Orvieto" (the Cathedral, where the reliquary is kept), of
course.
