There is a lot to be said for not getting separate meta-analysis
software, but instead doing your analysis in a general statistical
package. The advantages are
- superior data manipulation capabilities
- you don't have to learn yet another package
- cheaper.
I'd recommend you look at Stata, which has some powerful suites of
user-written routines for meta-analysis, notably the 'metan' package
originally developed by Michael Bradburn, Jonathan Deeks and Douglas
Altman, which is very powerful and has publication-quality graphics.
