Misunderstanding, here. I doubt Deleuze would have even heard of
Bordwell, let alone critique him. No: It was Bordwell who 'trashed'
Deleuze's cinema books. In: On the History of Film Style, pp.
116-117: 'This philosopher's foray into film theory illustrates how
uncritical adherence to historiographic tradition can disable
contemporary work.' (117)
Having said this, On the History of Film Style is an excellent book,
and very insightful, especially regarding staging in depth and mise-
en-scène.
