Laurent Cantet's Ressources humaines is interesting in terms of shame:
the upwardly mobile son who has been taught to be ashameed of his
origins by his working class father. There's a wonderful scene towards
the end when the son throws it all in the father's face. Cantet's
L'Emploi du temps (Time out) could also be looked at in terms of shame
and guilt. Isn't the great thing about Cantet, Haneke and the Dardennes
that shame / guilt are socialised rather than psychologized?
