Another rather useful book linking Winnicott to film is Eric Santner's
Stranded Objects: Mourning, Memory and Film in Postwar Germany (Cornell
1990). The book particular looks at the use of transitional objects in
relation to Germany. Part of the problem I see in looking for only
Winnicott's use of the transitional objects and play in relation to film
stems from the fact that most of British object relations work gets subsumed
into Lacanian studies--i.e. transitional objects turn into a form of "object
a". In his seminar on British object relations, Lacan actually quips that
everything he does is object-relations. That said, one of my colleagues
informed me about this question this morning and thought I might want to
chime in. Hope this is helpful.
