medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Brenda,
The application of psychiatry/psychology to history, literary criticism, art
criticism, etc. is a contentious issue and the replies you receive will
probably depend on the bias of the person responding. I personally enjoy and
applaud such interdisciplinary blending of ideas and have been known to
dabble myself. Carrer has a long career behind him and has published much on
the subject. He certainly knows what he's doing in the realm of psychiatry
and psychohistory is becoming, if it has not already become, thoroughly
respectable. However, if he does not have his facts straight or twists them
to fit a pre-ordained conclusion, well, that's another matter. I have not
been able to find any reviews of his work and will be interested in what
others have to say.
