medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This is a bit of a long shot: does anyone have access to the Customary (or
similar) of the Abbey of Fleury - probably one of the editions by Anselme
Davril. If so, what does it say about the Palm Sunday procession: how far
does it go, and where did they sing Gloria laus and Ingrediente?
At a day school yesterday on the music, drama, liturgy and architecture at
the Abbey of Fleury, we got into a discussion on the function of the west
tower/porch/belfry. I suggested that it would have played in role in such
processions - Gloria laus could have been sung from the upper stage, for
example. (It must have been sung at some point - it was written by
Theodulph of Orléans, who was Abbot!)
