medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Doctissimi,
At Torcello recently, I saw a huge painting at Sta Maria Assunta of the Last
Judgment, similar to many others but with an added element: a depiction of
the preparation of the throne of judgment. Is this a common theme or is SMA
unusual in this respect? And may I assume that Psalmo 9:
(9:8. But the Lord remaineth for ever. He hath prepared his throne in
judgment:
Dominus autem in sempiternum sedebit stabilivit ad iudicandum solium suum)
is the source for this idea?
Thanks,
MG
