Clinical Effectiveness Unit
The Royal College of Surgeons of England
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit
and
National Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction Audit
The Clinical Effectiveness Unit is a joint unit of The Royal College of
Surgeons of England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine. Its remit is to carry out national audits, develop audit
methodologies and produce evidence on clinical and cost effectiveness of
surgical procedures.
For each cancer audit, we are seeking an enthusiastic research fellow
who will be part of a multidisciplinary team. The candidate will support
the design of the audit, assessment of data quality, data analysis, and
reporting of its findings and policy implications. The work could form
the basis for an MD/PhD thesis.
The audits are funded by the Healthcare Commission. They are carried
out in partnership with the NHS Health and Social Care Information
Centre. The Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons of Great
Britain and Ireland and the British Society of Gastroenterology provide
clinical leadership for the oesophago-gastric cancer audit. The
Association of Breast Surgeons and the British Society of Plastic
Surgeons do the same for the mastectomy and breast reconstruction audit.
The posts require excellent verbal and written communication skills and
good organisational abilities.
Clinical candidates should have passed a membership exam of a Royal
College or hold an equivalent qualification. They should also have
relevant clinical experience. A track-record in research is an
advantage.
Non-clinical candidates should have a postgraduate degree in
epidemiology, health services research, or a related discipline. They
should also have experience with handling large databases, modelling and
analysing quantitative data.

der Meulen (email: [log in to unmask]) or Dr John Browne
