We have introduced a book drop facility as a part of an Intellident RFID
installation project here at Barbican Library. The customer has to have
a membership card as a security precaution to access the facility which
allows return of items, renewal of items and account checking.
This has worked well and been popular with customers. Problems have been
encountered with unexpected power cuts and in the early stages a logging
out of the facility which has now been solved. On the whole this is a
popular facility which has not resulted in all the usual concerns of
unwanted goods (and worse) deposited in the shute as a result of the
initial membership card screening process.

Subject: book drops
Do any local authorities use book drops for users to hand back items
when
the library is closed? Have you experienced any problems with this set
up?
We are considering this as an option and would appreciate any feedback.
thanks
