Apologies for cross-posting
As there has been some discussion about Enquire, it future and it's worth, I thought I would let you know how we are planning to use it here at Luton.
From 25th September, we will be running an online homework club on Mondays and Tuesdays during term time, for those children who have Internet access but find it difficult to get to a library when the "real" as opposed to "virtual" clubs are in session. There will be staff on duty between 4pm and 6pm ready to help children find the information they are looking for on the web, or indeed refer them to books they may use. These sessions will help both staff and children. The staff will gain confidence in web searching, enquiry techniques and using chat software. It will promote the use of our online resources, most of which can be access remotely. The children will be pointed to "good" web sites, instead of just googling and hitting on the first link. And lastly, I think it's great fun!
We are also hoping to run an "Ask the Chief Executive" session later in the autumn. The Chief Executive of Luton Borough Council has seen a demo and is keen to give a try - we just need to be careful how we promote this and do it before any bad news is announced!
So Enquire is not just a chore or a money pit - if we can use it this way, anyone can
