medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear listmembers:
In a paper on the Galluspforte (Basel cathedral) I read the following
(I translate from the German original): "From the times of Beda
Venerabilis (...) and in the following centuries, the Feast of John
the Baptist's conception (Conceptio) on 24th. September was too (?
auch) celebrated as the year beginning (Jahresanfang)"
Forgive my total ignorance but, then, when the first of January began
to be (re)instaurated as the New Year Feast?
Thanks!
Carlos
