Today (14. June) is the feast day of:
Dogmael (Dogfael, Dogwel) (6th cent.?) Dogmael was a Welsh monk who
seems to have moved to Brittany for much of his career. He is still
invoked to help children learn to walk.
Methodius of Constantinople (d. 847) Methodius, also called "the
Confessor" and "the Great," played a major role in the final defeat
of iconoclasm. He was a Sicilian who went to Constantinople to get a
court job, but ended up as a monk, then cleric in the patriarch's
service. Emperor Michael the Stammerer imprisoned him for seven
years (9 in other accounts) in horrendous conditions, because of M's
strong stand against iconoclasm. M. was released, only to get into
trouble with Emperor Theophilus, who had him flogged and his jaw
broken. But when Empress Theodora became regent for her young son,
she restored icons, deposed the iconoclast patriarch, and installed M.
