medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Merci Jean Luc, C'est merveilleux!
I guess that will settle the matter. Looking closer at the inscription
is it now more likely to have been CARTVSIAE VILLENOVAE - part of the A
has been effaced with the initial C - perhaps by the Benedictines
in Fécamp (to conceal that it not was Benedictine but Augustinian).
The calendar as well as the decoration points to Southern France,
- there is lots of reasons to follow the suggestion put forward by
George, and with the numerous sources listed by Jean Luc does it look
very promising.
Thanks to all
Erik Drigsdahl
