medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Jim Bugslag <[log in to unmask]>
>....Saint-Hilaire [of Chartres] is 12th-century in origin, this would be
substantially earlier than any example I know of in England. Surely the
cartulary of Saint-Pierre would be helpful in determining whether there was a
parish attached to the abbey church.
i've got this dim memory that the church is, indeed, early --but wouldn't rely
on it.
the cartulary would be the ultimate source for any early mention, and i'll try
to remember to look in that this evening.
generally speaking the best, quick place to find a bit on the origins and
history of the (many) Chartrain churches is
Jacques Lacour, _Chartres, églises et chapelles_. Chartres: Société
archéologique d'Eure-et-Loir, 1985.
which i'll try and remember to use tonight, as well.
