his vita (written by a monk of St. Peter's) tells us, he "Reliquias D.
Virginis Carnoti veneratur".
during the course of a building campaign his tomb was "invented", 9 May, 1165,
and miracles were associated with it and it became a site of pilgrimage.
which came in mighty handy when the monks came up a bit short paying the bills
for the new building.
the "Historia inventionis et miraculorum S. Gilduini" is published in the
first volume of the Analecta Bollandiana (1882).
the _Via_ is in the AASS, Jan., ii.
