EMERALD'S BRITISH FOOD JOURNAL SELECTED BY ISI
January 4, 2006 - UK. Emerald Group Publishing's British Food Journal
has been accepted into ISI under the Science Citation Index (expanded)
and Current Contents/Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences
index. The journal on food-related research will be indexed from the
start of the 2005 volume and receive its first impact factor in 2008 as
three years of full data is required for the calculation.
ISI staff review nearly 2,000 new journal titles annually but only
10-12% of those evaluated are selected.
Vicky Williams, Managing Editor of British Food Journal, said, "Journals
go through an extensive evaluation process before being selected by ISI.
This is a real breakthrough for British Food Journal and a testament
to the hard work of the editor."
Used together with other factors such as peer review, cost, circulation
data, and usage statistics, ISI can help librarians make more informed
buying decisions. Emerald 's journals are available in hard copy and
online. Its 2004 usage statistics showed a 17 percent increase in usage
by customers worldwide. On average over 600,000 articles were downloaded
each month, affirming market demand for Emerald content in all areas of
management information.
Librarians can augment the ISI selection with Emerald's 'Librarian
Toolkit', a series of free guides which supports librarians in improving
internal marketing of Emerald electronic full text, reviews and
abstracts to their faculty and student user base, thereby encouraging
optimum use of services. The toolkit comprises modules ranging from
training users to monitoring usage and promoting Emerald within the
institution. It is available online
(http://www.emeraldinsight.com/librariantoolkit) and in hard copy.
