Nope, Dear Chris,
Contemporary times started in 1947! and Modern times ended in 1947.
You know, for historians in the 19th century there was the Pre-History,
before writing and recorded events and the History, writen record of events.
History (the "organized" past) was divided mainly in two periods: Ancient
and Modern. This also hapened because there was an interuption (they called
it the midle ages because they had no name for it in such a simple frame
work). Their own time was not historical, it was not past. So they called it
Contemporary. The funny thing is that since Contemporary has been going for
so many years that we have already Contemporary History.
OUR (both of us) real contemporary times started in 1961, so I should say
fairly that you were Modern for 14 years
Best regards,
Eduardo Côrte-Real (age 45)
