Yes, I agree that reasoning and rigour are not synonymous (sorry your
point might have dropped off the discussion). I said rigour was the
thorough and systematic use of... [including practice]. However,
rigorous "practice" is not necessarily research. The originality of
any contribution to a community needs to be placed in a context that
shows it to be original [etc.]. This includes constructing a reasoned
argument relating the contribution to existing
knowledge/expertise/practices/interpretations. Your point [I think]
is that reasoning must be involved. I agree. My point, which
complements yours, is that whatever is done must be rigorously done.
