Pretty much any currently available chip will work fine - the faster
the better (though the very fastest CPUs tend to be not such good
value for money)

Doesn't matter - whichever locally gives you better value for money.
However you definitely should get 64-bit.

Depends on the size of the analyses you are running, but I would get
at least 2GB unless you're going to stay on small analyses..

Depends on the study sizes etc - yes 250GB is a god start., more is
better (though backup can become a problem).

Shouldn't matter.

That's, like, 15 pounds? But yes that should be fine.

If it's for a laptop we would definitely recommend Apple.
However, I assume you're talking about a desktop? In which case
either an Imac or a linux desktop should be good. NOT Windows.

Our current releases support Fedora FC4 on 64bit.

If you get an IMac or linux with a supported flavour (eg FC4) then
installation of FSL is trivial.
