Description
Assistant Professor, Anthropology This is an academic-year,
tenure-track appointment beginning Fall 2006. Develop programs of
teaching, scientific research and publication, and theory building
emphasizing the ethnology of coastal people. Primarily, in teaching:
contribute to the cultural component of the anthropology BA program by
developing new courses concerned with the ethnology of coastal/maritime
people, and also by teaching core courses in introductory and upper
division cultural anthropology. Secondarily, in teaching: develop and
teach courses that complement the cultural anthropology component of the
Underwater Archaeology minor, the anthropology option within the History
MA program, and possibly, the Marine Affairs curriculum and/or the
Coastal Fellows Program. Conduct independent research on the ethnology
of coastal people. Seek external grant funds for research activities.
Participate in departmental and university committees and external
professional activities. Required: A Ph.D. degree in cultural
anthropology (degree must be in hand by 1 September 2006); demonstrated
experience or potential in teaching, research design and execution, data
analysis, publication of results, and obtaining grant funds.
