The medical anthropology department at UCL, in conjunction with the British Museum, is holding a series of public lectures and seminars, every Thurs afternoon/evening, from Jan - March 2006. These aim to be interdisciplinary (though primarily medical anthropology/material culture in focus), the lectures aim to attract members of the public and academics, while the seminars will be targeted for researchers/those with a more academic interest in the issues. Attached is the programme of events.
The series is entitled 'Making Things Better', and aims at examining issues relating to biomedicine, traditional healing, cross-cultural notions of illness and health, and the role of development organisations in relation to medicine and health. It should be a very exciting series of events, and, with international speakers also participating, has the potential to be a vibrant forum for meaningful exchange of ideas.
I hope that many of you will be interested in attending; for further information, the Museum's contact number is provided on the attachment; see also this page http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/whatson/events/lectures.html
and I can be contacted at [log in to unmask] At present, I am publicising this among individuals or institutions whose work and research focus seems particularly to relate to the topics of discussion, but of course if any of you should also know of others who might wish to attend please feel free to forward this.
All the best,
Tamryn.
