Might a better strategy be to ensure that entries for these digital data be put in Gigateway, rather than creating a separate list? The reason I suggest this is because historic data are very important, and of widespread use. Having a single catalogue for Geographic data - and Gigateway is by no means confined to current data - is of enormous value, and will ensure a far wider user base for the data than will be reached otherwise.
I may be speaking out of turn here - I am not a librarian, nor concerned with paper maps - but I do have a great concern that data of enormous value to communities such as planners, environmental agencies and many others is not being put in the primary cataloguing system for digital data.

Thanks Paul, I will consider adding gigateway to my list of lists we do not
want to duplicate.
The projects in the BRICMICS list are mostly digital image-making projects
(mostly of old maps). Gigateway, on the other hand, seems to be mainly
concerned with current data. It does not, for example, include the British
Library and the National Library of Scotland.
The primary aim of the BRICMICS list is to alert people to what images are
being created so that effort is not duplicated. It is to further this aim
that a more concerted effort is being made to widen the
information-gathering process.
