Definitely not a powder house - there's one at Crebor, at the bottom of a dump, facing into the slope and a long way from all the other buildings. The Pitman's House is in one corner of the yard where all the other mine service buildings are.

Are you sure that it wasn't simply named after the guy who was responsible for it. Pitman is a very common surname after all. From the dimensions, could it have been a powder house? Is there any trace of it having been lined with lead sheet - especially the floor? Was it set apart from the other buildings, as it would have been if used for the storage of blasting materials?
