medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (29. November) is the feast day of:
Saturninus of Toulouse (d. 3rd cent.?) Saturninus (Sernin) is
honored as a missionary and first bishop of Toulouse. HIs passio,
written sometime before the seventh century, tells that S's powerful
holiness made the local oracles stop working. Temple priests tried
to force S. to sacrifice, and when he refused, tied his feat to a
bull that was set to run until S. died.
Radbod (d. 917) Radbod was a great-grandson of Radbod, last king of
the Frisians; he was the son of a Frisian mother and Frankish father.
R. studied at Cologne, and when he was about 30 became a monk. He
became bishop of Utrecht in c. 900, demonstrating great care for the
poor and writing hymns.
