medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (17. September) is the feast day of, among others:
Hildegard of Bingen (d. 1179), shown here with prior Volmar:
http://www.oglethorpe.edu/faculty/~j_bohart/images/hildegaard.JPG
And here's a brief, English-language account of her by Constant Mews:
http://www.litencyc.com/php/speople.php?rec=true&UID=5531
Surely today's silence of the list with regard to H. does not betoken a
diminution in what one would have thought her absolutely canonical
status in contemporary Medieval Studies. Or does it? Is
Medieval-Religion ahead of the curve in this respect?
Best,
John Dillon
PS: One of the aforementioned others is Roberto Bellarmino, SJ, a Doctor
of the Church and well known saint of the Regno who's a bit too late for
this list -- though his name did surface here recently in connection
with Priscus of Capua.
