medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Kerry,

Does this mean that you didn't find much more about Petrus Alfonsi in
the collection of essays on him to which I pointed you or, instead, that
you haven't had time yet in which to read these essays? Of course, if
you haven't had time for the latter, then presumably you also haven't
had time to delve into the bibliography provided by Bruno W. Häuptli in
his article on P. in the Bautz _Biographisch-Bibliographisches
Kirchenlexikon_, conveniently on-line at:
http://www.bautz.de/bbkl/p/petrus_alf.shtml
and readily findable through the Google phrase search cited in my
previous communication in this thread.

P.'s _Disciplina clericalis_, as edited by Alfons Hilka and Werner
Söderhjelm, is conveniently on-line at:
http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/alfonsi.disciplina.html
You might have a look at this or at one of the _Disciplina clericalis_'
two twentieth-century English translations. A quick comparison of these
fables with those of "Aesop" (the conventional designation for the
collection of Greek-language fables that circulated anciently and
medievally under this name) will show that the former are not a version
of the latter.

P.'s tales, yes. "Aesop"'s, no.
Best again,
The person who gave you (the today most commonly used form of) Pedro's
Latin name.
