I have a request for assistance from Jo Anne Simon who is working with a legal services lawyer representing a Pakistani national who is 16 and has. severe muscular dystrophy. The family has lived in the U.S. For many years and the whole family is about to be deported.
The young man's doctor says without adequate care, he will die. The family is concerned that he and his brother, who is 22 and has a severe cleft palate and stutters, will not have access to either civil rights or essential medical services if they are deported to Pakistan. Actually, the parents are terrified of their sons being mistreated and abused (if not worse) if they return to Pakistan..
The judge wants some evidence of the conditions for individuals with disabilities in Pakistan.
They have a court hearing on July 7th. Can anyone refer me to >elkiable report on the treatment of individuals with disabilities in Pakistan? Something with solid bona fides like a UN or WHO report?
We are also looking for someone in the US that would be willing to testify (not neccesarily in person). The level of expertise required is not that great; familiarity with the social and cultural structures.
