medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Just a small correction - Bede was 7 when he joined the monastery.
St Bede's Day is commemorated (amongst in other ways) by the annual Jarrow
Lecture which takes place on the Friday nearest St Bede's day in St Paul's
Church (although this year it will be in the conference room at Bede's World
as there is limited access to the church due to roof repairs). The speaker
for 2005 is Dr Alan Thacker and the subject "Bede and Augustine of Hippo",
7.30pm on Friday 27 May. Attendence is free of charge - all welcome.
