I would be interested in any feedback on or creative ideas for disposal of
unwanted library stock.
Skips full of books destined for landfill do not seem to go down well with
the public/press/politicians.
Ongoing booksales can be a slow process and can detract from the image of
the library.
Larger occasional sales can be staff and time intensive and require a good
location, publicity, transport and storage.
Other institutions, charities and booksellers are not always keen on
standard library discards.
Sales of older more collectable items can attract disapproving publicity in
the local press (and current editions of Private Eye).
We are using a recycling collection group but the local cooperative charge
per bag with a double charge if hardback covers are not torn off.
All thoughts welcome
