> Je crois même que le chanoine Delaporte a laissé certaines descriptions de
manuscrits de la bibliothèque municipale de Chartres disparus lors de la
dernière guerre mondiale.
oui.
Yves Delaporte, "Les Manuscrits enluminés de la Bibliothèque de Chartres",
in Le Cinquantenaire de la Société Archéologique d’Eure-et-Loir, 1906,
14-27 Mai, 31 Mai et 2, 3, et 4 Juin. Chartres, [1906], Tome II, pp. 165-363.
[Also reprinted, under the same title, different pagination : Chartres:
Durand (Société archéologique d'Eure-et-Loir), 1929. XII-190 pp.]
his catalogue is arranged chronologically, and i have the first 70 or so pages
dealing with the pre-1300 mss as a .doc file up on another website.
i'd be glad to share the url to that with anyone who is intested in having
it.
a few mostly wretched photographs of the illuminations and decorations in some
of the early destroyed mss are available here:

he was a quite remarkable and wide-ranging scholar, with more than 100
publications, large and small.
his Chef-d'oeuvre was his monograph on the glass, but he wrote on a vast
number of topics, publishing until his very last years.
i have almost completed the OCR of a fine little book of his --decpetively
"touristy" in appearance-- which is the best summary available of the many
images of the Virgin in the chathedral of Chartres:
Les Trois Notre-Dame de la cathédrale de Chartres, étude suivie de la liste
des images de la Vierge appartenant à la cathédrale et de quelques mots sur
le pèlerinage de Chartres [par] Y. Delaporte.
Edition: 2e édition.
Published: Chartres, É. Houvet, 1965.
i have a memory of seeing him in Chartres in about 1970, an ancient figure in
a long black cloak and wide brimmed hat, slowly climbing the steps of the
North transept.
he was also the archivist of the diocese (*not* the departement), and left his
books (with annotations!!) and papers (including some photographs) to those
archives, now in the able hands of his protegé, Pierre Bizeau.
best,
