medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Where can one find more information on the Martyrs of Mar Saba (d. 796)?
Thanks,

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (20. March) is the feast day of:
Photina and companions (?) Legend tells that Photina was the
Samaritan woman who has a cameo performance beside a well in John 4.
She is supposed to have preached the gospel and somehow made her way
to Carthage, where she was martyred. Or. . . she converted Nero's
daughter Domnina and 100 of her servants and was then martyred in
Rome.
Martin of Braga (d. 580) Martin first appears in history introducing
cenobitic monasticism to Galatia. He served as abbot until becoming
first a bishop and then archbishop of Braga in 572. M. was an active
missionary to the Arian Sueves and has left several interesting
treatises.
Cuthbert (d. 687) Some say he was Irish, some a Scot; Bede says he
was a Briton. Whoever he was, he became a monk at Melrose and then
Ripon. He was an active missionary, but became a hermit. Against
his will, C. was made bishop of Hexham in 685 (swapping with St. Eata
so C. got Lindisfarne instead).
Wulfram (d. c. 703) Wulfram was a Frankish courtier who was
appointed archbishop of Sens. But W. wasn't sure his appointment was
legal (his predecessor was still alive and in exile), so he soon
resigned and went off to convert Frisians.
Martys of Mar Saba (d. 796) 20 monks of St. Sabas' near Jerusalem
were killed in an Arab raid; many more were injured.
