The Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU) is an academic collaboration between The Royal College of Surgeons of England and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Its remit is to carry out national audits, develop audit methodologies, and produce evidence on clinical and cost effectiveness. It is also involved in the development of clinical guidelines through its input in the NICE Collaborating Centre for Acute Care.
The UK Cardithoracic Transplant Audit and the UK and Ireland Liver Transplant Audit evaluate the outcome after transplant services in the UK. Their aim is to analyse the outcome of transplantation for different categories of patients, and for different centres taking account of variations in case-mix.
For these audits, we are seeking an epidemiologist or statistician who will be part of a multidisciplinary team. The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the analysis of the data, reporting the findings of the audit, co-ordinating data collection, validating the central database and assessing the implications of the findings for transplant practice and policy. There will also be the opportunity to participate in other large scale research projects of the CEU with an emphasis on risk modelling for case-mix adjustment.
Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in epidemiology, statistics or a related discipline. Good verbal and written communication skills, and enthusiasm for research are essential. Experience with handling large databases, modelling and knowledge of Stata would be advantageous.
The initial contract is for a year but it may be extended depending on funding.
