SECOND CALL FOR SESSIONS
Organizers of the 2006 ICAZ International Conference in Mexico City are
soliciting session proposals. The conference objectives are: (1) Promoting
the Archaeozoology in the Third World; (2) Opening Avenues of Communication
between Latin American Archaeozoologists and Archaeozoologists in other
Countries.
To further these goals we are looking of individuals interested in
organizing sessions around the following themes:
(1) Animal Domestication in the Americas: Comparisons and Contrasts with
Old World Animal Domestication
(2) Peopling of the Americas: Archaeozoological Evidence.
(3) Exploitation of Coastal Resources: New and Old World Perspectives
(4) Animals and Complexity: How Archaeozoologists Contribute to the Study
of Complex Society in the New and Old Worlds
(5) Archaeozoology in the Digital Age: Advances in Analysis, Collections
and Data Access
(6) Subsistence and Animal Symbolism in Tropical Areas.
As with all ICAZ conferences, conference organizers of the 2006 meeting
also welcome sessions that focus on any of the diverse range of
Archaeozoology studies in general. Both oral presentations and poster
sessions are welcome. Poster sessions are particularly encouraged. Session
organizers will be responsible for identifying session participants,
obtaining participant abstracts, organizing the sequence of presentations,
and for all communications with participants other than those related to
registration for the conference.
Symposium topics that have already been proposed include: Neotropical
Zooarchaeology and Taphonomy; Cut Mark Research: New and Old World
Perspectives on Advances in Butchery Analysis; Archaeology and Colonialism;
A Walk on the Wild Side: The Role of Wild Animals in Farming Societies;
Ethnozooarchaeology; Animal Transformations; Revision and Rejection:
Reporting the Negative Result; Archaeozoology in Latin America: Advances
and Perspectives; Amerindian Dogs and their Relationship to Old World Dogs.
Individuals wishing to organize an ICAZ session should contact the ICAZ2006
organizing committee no later than the end of May 2005 with a written
session abstract. The session abstract should include a title, a brief
abstract of the session topic and a list of possible participants. You will
then receive information of how to prepare a full session proposal.
Final session proposals that include all participant information, titles
and abstract of presentations are due in February 2006. Deadlines for
abstracts which will be included in organized sessions should be set by the
session organizer(s) sufficiently in advance to ensure that the session
packs will be sent to the icaz2006 organizing committee before the end of
February 2006.
Individuals wishing to contact an organizer from those topics that have
already been proposed please ask to the Organizing Committee. The deadline
for abstracts for individual contributions will be the end of March 2006.
