I'll second that - I've seen a horse jaw where a missing upper molar caused misalignement and "V" shaped wear on a mand. second molar (if memory serves) resulted....

You do not say which molar tooth it is. "V" shaped wear can occur on the upper M3 when the lower P2 is absent and the hypoconulid (3rd pillar) is absent in the corresponding lower M3 due to misalignment of the teeth.
