Rigging of the elections is certainly a possibility, but exit poll data
are not very good evidence for it, since there is room for bias in any
survey that has substantial nonresponse (even assuming that people who
respond don't lie). IMHO, rather than trying to second-guess the
legitimacy of the election (now that all practical possibility of
challenge is past), it is more important politically to address the range
of known and persistent sources of bias/unfairness in elections (such as
inadequate supply of voting equipment in electoral districts with high
minority and urban population, intimidation of voters, exclusion of
ex-felons and of minorities in general from voting enrollment) and to
investigate specific forms of abuse that are suspected but not
established (manipulation of electronic voting machines). Action between
now and the next election is the key.
