Whenever we scan anything, we always do it at 300 dpi and this seems to be
fine for most people's needs. We have, very occasionally, been asked to
provide a higher resolution image for publishers, but the number of times
this has happened has not convinced us that it would be worth our while to
always scan at 600 dpi.
We also save everything we scan and are gradually building up an image
database which is already proving extremely useful. The idea is that this
means we'll only ever have to scan anything once. This is another factor in
our decision to stick at 300 dpi - the database could eventually become far
too large if we scanned at a higher resoultion.
