Greetings from the Western Isles!
I can't promise another of the more riveting topics which we have had in
recent weeks, but a minor one which can nevertheless still prove taxing. In
other words, someone complained!
I recall the age old guidelines for posters and displays in libraries of
having nothing religious, political or commercial. We are having to look
again at our guidelines because of the grey areas between art/culture and
commerce. For example, advertising a concert: is it art, so ok to advertise,
or is it commerce because charges will be made and someone will make money;
or, displaying craft work: is it simply local arts & craft, or is it
commerce because someone is trying to make some money? Many of our posters
seem to be more and more commercial under the guise or art or educational or
health promoting services etc.
If anyone is willing to share any guidelines and policies or (positive!)
experiences, we will be very grateful.
Regards,
Bob Eaves
