For the modern scholarly separation of the hagiographer Symeon the
Metphrast (d. ca. 1000) from the mid-tenth-century chronicler Symeon
the Logothete, an official under Constantine VII, see the _Oxford
Dictionary of Byzantium_, pp. 1982-84, ss.vv. "Symeon Logothete"
and "Symeon Metaphrastes". Assertions that the two were one and the
same now require at least a modicum of justification; lacking that,
they may be disbelieved.
