medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The only full length study of the cult of St. Michael that I know of is
quite old: O. Rojdestvensky, Le culte de saint Michel et le moyen âge latin.
Paris, 1922. She was very skeptical about claims that he was a
christianisation of Mercury-Hermes. There is also an interesting sermon by
the tempestuous Ratherius of Verona which hints at some peculiar beliefs
concerning St. M.

I´m sure the rest of the list would also like to know about St. Michael in
southern Italy (or elsewhere.)
For example, I would love bibliography on the possibility of his shrines
being continuations / replacements
of pre-Christian shrines.
