Employer National Patient Safety Agency
Department
Location London
Salary £55,000 - 60,000
Job Type Permanent
Closing Date 17th September 2004
A growing force in the NHS, the NPSA is encouraging healthcare staff to report things that go wrong so that lessons can be learnt and findings shared across the service. As part of improving patient safety, we develop innovative solutions that can prevent mistakes being repeated.
To contribute to these goals we are developing a Patient Safety Observatory to bring together data and intelligence from a wide range of sources to better understand the field of patient safety
As the head of a dedicated team within the Department of Epidemiology and Research led by Professor Richard Thomson, you will develop and implement the Patient Safety Observatory, to create a systematic approach to collation, analysis and use of data on patient safety. You will identity and work with key information sources and partners, including other national organisations. You will develop and oversee strategies for analysis and reporting of data to a variety of audiences, including the NHS and the public, and lead the production of reports which will seek to create major influence on improving patient safety. You will also ensure that the Observatory actively contributes to and influences the NPSA prioritisation and R&D programmes. You will liaise with contributing individuals and organisations at all levels throughout the health community, ensuring active engagement.
We seek a qualified health professional or manager with a postgraduate degree and at least five years' experience at a senior level within an NHS or closely related organisation. You should have excellent organisational and analytical skills; experience of working with large data sets and analysing, interpreting and presenting data; strong project and programme management experience; and the ability to develop external collaborative partnerships. You should have knowledge of incident reporting systems in health care and in other organisations, and of NHS and health relevant data sets. An academic or public health background would be an advantage. You should be an effective leader, able to motivate staff and consistently deliver results.
In return for your commitment, we offer excellent opportunities for personal development and a healthy work-life balance. The NPSA is committed to equal opportunities and also welcomes applicants who are interested in job share or other approaches to flexible work, including part-time working arrangements with an applicant's host organisation. PLEASE NOTE: IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST ADDRESS THE CRITERIA OUTLINED IN THE PERSON SPECIFICATION IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
