medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The Translation Feast of St Cuthbert on 4 September commemorated his
translation in 1104 and, as this was the 900th anniversary of the event,
was a grand occasion with a lecture in the cathedral and various
services, celebrating Cuthbert's removal from the cloister into the
finished church behind the high altar, and the various inspections of
his body to check that it was complete and uncorrupt.
