ADVANCED NOTICE OF A UK MEETING
A VIRUTAL SPECIALIST LIBRARY FOR RURAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Tuesday 9th November 2004, Birmingham
You are invited to contribute to a discussion forum considering the development of a virtual Specialist Library for Rural Health and Wellbeing.
For health and social care practitioners working in rural communities, access to information is a vital tool in developing and delivering quality health and social care services. But the very nature of rural practice itself can isolate or limit the practitioner's access to the wide range of high-quality knowledge resources they require for both clinical practice and service development in a rural setting.
By developing a Specialist Library for Rural Health and Wellbeing, we seek to provide rural practitioners with an electronic gateway to the clinical and managerial information they require in order to provide their local communities with quality health and care services. For rural communities, this Specialist Library will also be a source of quality-assured information relating to patient care, rural wellbeing issues and community support information.
The Specialist Library is currently being developed in partnership by Powys Local Health Board, the Institute of Rural Health and Wales College of Medicine. This UK meeting is being sponsored by the National Electronic Library for Health.
We would like to invite anyone working in, or with an interest in, rural issues, (especially, but by no means exclusively, health, social care and wellbeing), to join us to discuss how this Specialist Library should develop. Anyone who feels that they, either as an individual or organisation, would like to actively participate in the development of the Specialist Library, is especially welcome!
A prototype of the virtual Specialist Library is currently in development and will go live in the next few weeks. An agenda for the 9th November meeting will be available shortly.
If you would like to know more about this UK meeting, request a booking form, or simply register an interest, please email [log in to unmask] Further details will be circulated as soon as possible.
