Apropos of the recent discussion of smaller churches (especially those
serving now as parish churches) as paler reflections of larger ones,
consider this portal from the much-rebuilt church of San Giuliano Martire
at nearby San Giuliano di Puglia (despite its name, also in Molise's
Campobasso province):
http://www.vittimedellascuola.it/chiesa_notizie.htm
http://www.pagus.it/progetto/comuni/sgiulianodp/sgiuliano/
http://utenti.lycos.it/comune/chiesamadre.htm
This latter URL may not be stable; it's a larger version of a thumbnail here:
http://utenti.lycos.it/comune/san_giuliano_di_puglia1.htm
As the address of the first of these URLs will remind some, San Giuliano di
Puglia is the town where twenty-six children and one teacher lost their
lives when their school collapsed during the earthquake of 2. November
2002. Some 80 per cent of the town's buildings were officially declared
unusable/uninhabitable. The church too was damaged, but its portal appears
to have survived. A photo of the damage to the church's interior is here:

Best,
John Dillon
