medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Do you really believe that undergraduates on your courses have the same
intellectual capacity as a medieval peasant?

Presumably you are aware of Dee Dyas's work on this - eg her book Images of
Faith in English Literature (Longman, 1997). I teach very mixed-age groups
of undergraduates: I am often surprised at how little even the older ones
know about Christianity, though it was an eighteen year old who admitted to
me a couple of years ago that he couldn't remember which one was Jesus and
which one was Buddha.
I tend to use a lot of visual imagery to give them a basic overview,
working on the basis that that is how the medieval peasant would have
learned.
