Social network analysis - identifying applications for assessing and
intervening to create effective collaborative networks - a Hot Topic seminar

Speakers include: David Ewbank, Aventis; Dr Bruce Cronin, University of
Greenwich Business School and Mark Newman, Morphix
Over the past couple of decades a wave of initiatives such as
re-engineering, six sigma, high performing teams, supply chain integration
and myriad technologies have entered the corporate landscape with varying
degrees of success. This seminar will give you an understanding of the
theory and practice of network analysis, an understanding of how you might
conduct your first network analysis and an experience of applications
through some practitioner-led case studies.  You will also gain knowledge of
present trends in the emergence of 'social network' technology and
implications for privacy and become more aware of the future trends in
social networks.

Thesaurus Construction
Speaker: Stella Dextre Clarke
This two day course addresses the fundamental questions of whether and how
to build a thesaurus, how to adapt it for specific needs and how to plan the
work that will be involved.  Practical exercises reinforce the principles
and there will be opportunities to raise and discuss the practicalities of
your own situation. At the end of the course you will be able to decide
whether a thesaurus is a good idea for your application.  Alternatively, you
will be able to evaluate an existing thesaurus. The training will include
planning the structure, presentation and other features of the thesaurus you
need, efficiently and effectively.
